Find out what Brick Fanatics thought about the recently-revealed LEGO Pokémon sets and just how well they manage to incorporate the SMART Play System.
To promote the recent reveal of 15 upcoming LEGO Pokémon sets, Brick Fanatics’ very own Matthew got to attend a special SMART Play event yesterday alongside other fan media. While there, he was able to get up-close-and-personal with the new models to find out just how well the interactive builds actually work.
Nearly all of the LEGO Pokémon sets revealed at the event have some sort of SMART Play functionality, with builders able to combine SMART Bricks with SMART Tags. The result can be a variety of light and sound functions, such as the noise of a hungry Pokémon eating or two opponents battling it out with each other’s brick-built critters.
On hand were members of the LEGO Pokémon team and The Pokémon Company International, who were able to offer insights into the latest collaboration from the two companies. That includes explaining why the various LEGO Pokémon are the shape and size that they are, why specific Pokémon were chosen over other and whether the LEGO Super Mario theme had any influence on the line.
You can find out the answers to those questions in the video embedded above, along with even more of Matthew’s thoughts on the upcoming LEGO Pokémon sets and their SMART Play functionality.
All 15 new LEGO Pokémon models will be launching on August 1, 2026, including 40887 Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night, a GWP that is currently listed as only being available via The Pokémon Centre.
